My Research Process
This section will systematically outline the steps involved in my research process. The methodology employed is based on industry best practices and informed by my own experiences. For further information on the research projects I have undertaken, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Research Questions
The effectiveness of research hinges on the quality of its questions. Crafting a successful research plan necessitates the identification of the specific challenges we intend to address and ensuring alignment between stakeholder objectives and user goals and behaviors. The research kick-off meeting for any research project holds significant importance. During this phase, I initiate discussions with project stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of the information we intend to unearth, enabling us to then formulate the larger research questions.

Research Plan
In accordance with the research questions, I will draft a comprehensive research plan that will encompass all the necessary information for conducting the research. The document will serve as a detailed record of the study's proceedings, ensuring that it is accessible to future readers who seek a clear understanding of the research.
Research Methodology
The user research will be executed in accordance with the research test plan, which may encompass a range of methodologies such as usability testing, user interviews, contextual inquiries, surveys, heuristic evaluations, or ethnographic observations. For this example, I will go through my process on evaluative usability testing.
Participant Recruitment
Participant recruitment is a critical step in usability testing, and it entails selecting individuals who embody the product's target audience and inviting them to participate in the testing. It is crucial to guarantee that participants are varied and representative of the product's user base. To expedite the recruitment of external participants, the use of software panels from reputable providers such as Usertesting.com, User Interviews, or UserZoom can significantly reduce the time required to secure a suitable target audience by weeks.
Moderator Guide
A UX research moderator guide is a document used by moderators to facilitate usability testing sessions. The moderator guide is a structured set of questions, tasks, and prompts that guide the moderator through the usability testing session, ensuring consistency and reliability in the testing process. The moderator guide is typically divided into sections, with each section covering a specific aspect of the testing process, such as introductions, warm-up questions, task scenarios, and debriefing questions. To use the moderator guide, the moderator should review it thoroughly in advance, familiarizing themselves with the questions, tasks, and prompts. During the usability testing session, the moderator should follow the guide closely, asking questions and providing prompts as needed to keep the testing on track and gather the necessary data. The moderator guide can be a valuable tool for ensuring that the usability testing session is structured, efficient, and effective in generating insights into the user experience.
1:1 Usability Test
Moderating a usability test is a critical component of evaluating a product's user experience. The first step in moderating a usability test is to introduce yourself to the participant and explain the purpose of the test. I establish rapport with the participant to help them feel comfortable and relaxed during the test. I provide clear instructions for each task and encourage the participant to think aloud throughout the session, as this can provide valuable insight into their thought process or mental models. During the session, I take notes, record observations, and ask follow-up questions to gain a deeper understanding of the participant's experience. Overall, the key to successful usability test moderation is to create a comfortable and supportive environment that encourages open and honest feedback while ensuring that the test objectives are met.
Data Analysis
Conducting data analysis for a UX research usability test involves a comprehensive examination of various key elements to glean actionable insights. Firstly, I delve into the participants' mental models, seeking to understand how they conceptualize and navigate the interface or product. This insight allows me to identify cognitive patterns and potential areas for improvement. Secondly, I closely examine user goals and motivations that were expressed during the test. This helps align the design with users' underlying needs and desires. Task completion rates and efficiency are another critical aspect of the analysis, as they indicate how well users were able to accomplish specific objectives within the interface. Lastly, the System Usability Scale (SUS) scores collected provide a quantitative measure of overall usability, offering a standardized benchmark for assessing the product's user-friendliness. Combining these insights enables us to make informed design decisions and prioritize enhancements that will ultimately enhance the user experience.
Report and Recommendations
Leveraging the findings gleaned from the data analysis of the usability test, my approach involves crafting a comprehensive report that serves as a roadmap for design improvements in alignment with our business and product vision. Beyond identifying existing pain points, I aim to uncover hidden opportunities and unintended insights that can lead to the development of innovative features. Simultaneously, I address accessibility issues to ensure an inclusive user experience. Through iterative research and design, I refine the recommendations to optimize usability and boost System Usability Scale (SUS) scores. When presenting these insights to the product department and executive teams, I employ storytelling tactics to weave a compelling narrative. I use real-user anecdotes and tangible metrics to illustrate the impact of proposed changes, making it easy for stakeholders to understand the value and urgency of the suggested improvements. This approach fosters a shared understanding of the user experience and ensures that our design decisions are grounded in user data while also aligning with our overarching business and product strategy.
